Burglars robbed Kirkwood  house several times befoe being arrested

Kirkwood - In a concerted effort by members from the South African Police Service to effectively address property related crimes, a team of dedicated detectives of SAPS Kirkwood swooped on seven alleged burglars on Tuesday morning.
"A team of detectives were set up early on Tuesday morning, after several burglary cases were reported at the same residential premises in Angle Street, Kirkwood, over a short period of time," described police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart.

"It is alleged that the first incident occurred on Saturday when suspects forced their way into the house by damaging the garage door.

"The suspects fled with various household items."

It is further alleged that the same suspects returned to the house on Easter Monday morning and this time removed the sliding door and stole various items.

"During the evening, four males entered the yard, but were surprised by a private security officer, who gave chase, but the suspects managed to flee from the premises without being arrested," Capt Swart.

"During the early hours of Tuesday morning, the suspects returned to the same house again where they removed the sliding door and poured petrol over the furniture as well as the exterior walls of the house.

"The suspects then set the petrol at the front entrance alight and security on the scene managed to douse the fire by using water from the swimming pool.  The suspects managed to fled on foot and evaded once again being arrested."

Various stolen items and ammunition found in possession of Kirkwood suspects

Capt Swart said that the team received valuable information from various sources, which they followed up on Tuesday morning.

"Information received led them to a residential premise in Aquapark, Kirkwood, where they arrested seven males between the ages of 24 – 32-years-old. The suspects were found in possession of several items allegedly stolen from the residential premises in Angle Street, Kirkwood."

She added that the seven suspects are due to appear in the Kirkwood Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges ranging from housebreaking and theft, arson, illegal possession of ammunition and the possession of suspected stolen property.

"Detectives are working with forensic experts to obtain further evidence to link the suspects to even more charges. Police confiscated various different rounds of ammunition and property," Capt Swart said.
Acting Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ronald Koll, thanked the community for providing valuable information that led to the arrests and the confiscation of the stolen property.

Brig Koll also thanked the team and said: “Due to a collaborative approach that was possible due to sound partnerships with the community, we (SAPS) were able to bring the culprits to account for their alleged wrongdoing”.
