Butterworth man accused of killing love rival remanded in custody

A 20-year-old man accused of killing a 24-year-old man, whom he suspected to be a love rival, appeared before the Butterworth Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

"The accused was not asked to plead and his case was remanded to Thursday next week," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"He will remain in custody for further investigation.

"The name of the accused is Simphiwe Qalekiso, aged 20."

"It is alleged that the suspect believed that the 24-year-old man was in love with his girlfriend," described Capt Manatha.

"The suspect drew his knife and fatally stabbed the 24-year-old man on Christmas Day, at about 21h30."

Capt Manatha said that the murder was committed at Mkrwaqa Locality, Dyosini Village, Butterworth.

"The deceased was identified as Anathi Nyamashe."
