Butterworth man jailed for 15 years for raping 10-year-old girl

The Butterworth Regional Magistrate's Court on Thursday sentenced 31-year-old man, Sibakhulu Njikelana, to undergo 15 years imprisonment for raping a 10-year-old girl two years ago.

"It is alleged that the accused requested the victim to accompany him to collect poles at the forest on 24 July 2016, at about 10:00, at Nyabavu Locality, Ngquthu Village, near the Kei river at Butterworth," described police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"Once they arrived at the forest, the accused instructed the victim to undress herself.

"He then raped her."

He said that a case of rape was later reported at Kei Bridge Police Station.

"The case was handed over to Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS)," Captain Manatha added.

"The accused was traced and arrested."

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu, has welcomed the sentence handed to the accused.
