Butterworth man jailed for 18 years for raping teen, after she passed out at tavern

The Butterworth Regional Magistrate's Court sentenced a 34-year-old man, Mvuyisi Cengimbo, to 18 years behind bars after it convicted him of taking advantage and raping a 17-year-old girl, who had passed out at a tarven, in May 2015.

According to police spokesperson,  Captain Jackson Manatha; "It is alleged that the 17-year-old girl was at a tavern with her friends at Centane on 15 May 2015, at about 00:30.  

"She became drunk and went to sleep in the car of the accused."

Captain Manatha said that Cengimbo allegedly drove the car to his home at Qombolo Village, Centane.

"He then raped the 17-year-old girl," he said.

"A rape case was then registered at Centane Police Station."

The Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) traced and arrested the accused.

He was sentenced on Thusrday last week.
