Butterworth man jailed for 20 years for raping teen

The Butterworth Regional Magistrate’s Court on Thursday sentenced a 30-year-old man, Siyavuya Mapisa, to 20 years imprisonment for raping a 15-year-old girl.

“It is alleged that the accused went to the house where the victim was sleeping with his mother on the 08 June 2017, at about 03:00, at Bhokhwe Locality, Mqambeli Village, Butterworth,” said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

“He dragged the victim to his room where he raped her.

“After finishing raping her, he allowed the victim to go back home.”

Capt Manatha said that members of the community were informed of the rape.

“They looked for the accused and found him. Police were called and they arrested him,” he added.

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu, thanked the community members of Mqambeli Village, Butterworth, for their assistance as they did not take law into their hands.

He also praised the investigating officer of the case for proper investigation which led to the hefty sentence.
