Butterworth man jailed for 25 years for raping six-year-old girl

The Butterworth Regional Magistrate's Court on Tuesday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Thukela Myekeni, to 25 years behind bars after it convicted him of raping a six-year-old girl in October last year.

"The accused was sentenced after he convicted of raping a six year old girl. The victim was raped on 05 October 2015 during the day at Mchubakazi Township, Butterworth," described police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"A case of rape was registered at Msobomvu Police Station."

He said that the Butterworth FCS Unit traced and arrested the accused.

"Eastern Cape police welcomed the sentence and it is being hoped that the sentence will serve as a deterrent to would be other rapists," added Captain Manatha.

Butterworth Cluster Commander Brigadier, Trevor Mey, congratulated Butterworth FCS Unit investigators for properly investigating rape cases and making sure that the perpetrators are getting stiff sentences.

The same court on Monday, sentenced a 34-year-old man to 18 years behind bars for taking advantage and raping a 17-year-old girl, who had passed out at a tarven, in May 2015.
