Butterworth man jailed for raping landlord's 7-year-old daughter

Butterworth - The Butterworth Regional Magistrate’s Court sentenced a 20-year-old man, Zongezile Ngcuka, to undergo 20 years imprisonment for rape.

"The accused was sentenced on Wednesday, at Butterworth Regional Magistrate’s Court," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"It is alleged that the accused person was a tenant at Zithulele Township, Butterworth.

"On the 12 March 2017, at about 18:00, the accused person called the 7-year-old daughter of the house owner to his room."

Capt Manatha said that the victim was raped by the accused.

"It, however, came to the attention of the mother of the victim that her daughter was raped by the accused," he added.

Acting Eastern Cape SAPS Provincial Commissioner, Major-General Andries Swart, condemned the rape of children and women.

He welcomed the sentence of the accused and hoped it will serve as a deterrent to would be other rapists.

Major-General Swart also commended the Investigating Officer of the case for properly investigating the case which led to a hefty sentence.
