Butterworth man slapped with 12-year jail sentence for 2013 rape

The Butterworth Regional Magistrate's Court this week sentenced a 25-year-old man, Anele Ndita, to undergo 12 years imprisonment for the rape of a 22-year-old woman in 2013.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, "It is alleged that the accused met with two women during November 2013 at Gcuwa Bridge, Butterworth. The two women were on their way to local supermarket.

"The accused threatened  and dragged them under the bridge. He instructed them to take off their clothes. One of the women managed to escape and run for dear life." 

He said that the 22-year-old woman was raped by the accused.

"A case of rape was registered at Butterworth Police Station.

"The Butterworth Family, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) investigated the case," he added.

"The accused was traced and arrested. He was found guilty of rape."

On Monday, he was sentenced to undergo 12 years imprisonment.
