Butterworth police appeal for help after shepherd finds newly-born baby

Police in Butterworth have appealed to the public for assistance after a local shepherd, who was busy looking after sheep and cattle found a newly born baby girl last week Wednesday evening.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha, the shephard found the baby at Kwa Sotomela Location, not far from Walter Sisulu University (Bika) campus, in Butterworth.

"The shepherd alerted three high school students that he saw near scene of crime about the baby. The learners contacted Msobomvu Police Station," he described.

"The baby was taken to Butterworth hospital where she is still being kept. A case of child abandoning has been opened. No one has been arrested. Anyone with information is kindly requested to contact Msobomvu Police on 047 4920180."
