Butterworth police appeal for leads after finding two bodies following shack fire

Butterworth - Butterworth police are appealing for community assistance to identify two burnt bodies.

"It is alleged that police were informed that a shack at Skiti Informal Settlement, in Butterworth, that was burning," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"When they arrived at the scene, they found that two unknown men burnt to death inside the shack."

An inquest docket has been opened for further investigation.

"The cause of the fire is not known at this point in time."

Captain Manatha said that the fire occurred on Thursday, at about 04:45.

"Anyone, who can assist in identifying the burnt bodies is kindly requested to contact Butterworth police at 047 401 1124."
