Butterworth police appeal for leads after woman raped and murdered in her shack

Butterworth police on Wednesday said that they are on the heels of an alleged rapist and murderer following the killing of woman in her shack on Tuesday night.

"It is alleged that Butterworth police were informed that a 31-year-old woman was murdered in her shack at Skiet Informal Settlement, in Butterworth, on Tuesday, at about 23:50," described police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"The deceased had wounds on her upper body.

"The clothes of the deceased on her lower body were removed, which led to the suspicion that she was may have been raped.

"It is believed that the deceased was staying alone."

He said that the identity of the deceased will be withheld until her family is officially informed of her murder.

"No one has been arrested yet.

"Anyone with information is kindly requested to contact Butterworth police at 047 401 1100 or Crime Stop 08600 10111," he appealed.
