“The victim was noticed by her family members that her behaviour has changed, when she was asked about it she broke the silence that she had been  raped  by the accused from  March till July 2016,” said Butterworth Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

The 51 year-old appeared before the Ngqamakhwe Magistrate Court on Monday and was remanded in custody to allow for further investigations.

In an unrelated case, the Willowvale Regional Magistrate Court convicted and sentenced 28 year-old Simphiwe Damane to 18 years behind bars for raping a five year-old girl on the 4th of August this year.

According to Willovale Police, the convicted met with the victim and her mother on the 4 January 2016, at about 17:00.

He met them at Ngose Locality, Lubomvini Village, Willowvale, and requested the victim from  her mother under the guise of accompanying her to a nearby homestead.

“The mother of the victim allowed her daughter to accompany the convicted as the latter was their neighbour, the mother did not suspect anything as she used to visit them,” said Captain Jackson Manatha.

He added that the convicted took the young girl to an unused house where he raped her and later released the victim; she went home and told her mother what transpired.
