Buttwerworth man jailed for 18 years for raping woman in 2016

The Butterworth Regional Magistrate's Court convicted and sentenced a 24-year-old man to undergo 18 imprisonment for rape.

Sivuyile Ndlotyeni was sentenced on Tuesday for raping a 25-year-old woman, whom he found on her way home in Taleni Village, Dutywa, on the 07 November 2016, at about 20:30.

"She came across the accused, who accosted her without any provocation. The victim was overpowered and raped by the accused," described police spokesperson, Captain jackson Manatha.

"A case of rape was registered at Dutywa Police Station."

He said that the Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS) investigated the case.

"The accused was later traced and arrested and charged with rape."

Eastern Cape Police Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Liziwe Ntshinga, has welcomed the sentence and said she hope that the sentence will serve as a deterrence to would be other rapists.

She also congratulated the investigating officer of the case who professionally and properly investigated the case.
