Caltex Greenbushes sponsors fifth Youth Day Soccer Tournament

Caltex Greenbushes and Freshstop are proudly sponsoring the Youth Day Soccer Tournament that will take place on Saturday, the 16th of June in Port Elizabeth.

The sponsorship of the annual event began in 2012 when Dewald Niemand and Jurie Snyman, of Caltex Greenbushes, decided that they would like to show some social responsibility and support the surrounding Kuyga community, an informal settlement in Greenbushes.

Now in its fifth year, the soccer tournament will feature the best soccer clubs from the Kuyga area.

The draw for the teams took place on Wednesday, 14 teams were part of the draw, but two more teams will be added before the tournament.

Young Ideas Football Club, the defending champions, have held the trophy three years in a row. Their club Captain Thando Oyisi is confident that his team will defend their Youth Day Soccer title at the tournament next weekend.

“We want to show support for the local community and sponsoring sporting activities is a great way to achieve this” said Dewald Niemand.

The tournament will be held at the Kuyga sports fields and will adhere to a knock-out system. The matches are scheduled to kick off at 9am.

There will be a R10,000 cash prize that will be split between the three top teams. R5000 will go to the winning team, while R3000 will go to the runners up and R2000 to the third team.

The fixtures for the Soccer tournament are- Kuyga United v Blue Aces, Fitches Corner v Young Pirates, Rocklands Stars v Shooting Stars, M Chiefs v Kuyga Masters, St Albans v Seaview United, XV Wizards v Pumas FC and Young Ideas v G Stars.
