Cambridge Neighbourhood Watch catch thief with wet clothing

Members of the Neighbourhood Watch of Cambridge West in East London spotted and observed a man, who was jumping from yard to yard on Tuesday with pieces of clothing and other items.

"They chased after him while awaiting for the police," said police spokesperson, Captain Mluleki Mbi.

"The police arrived shortly and a 49-year-old man was apprehended as he was about to disappear in the bushes nearby."

Capt Mbi said that he was found in possession of clothing items of which some were wet - a clear indication that they had been removed from the drying yards.

"Items like vehicle parts and gardening tools were also recovered from him."

Alleged thief expected in East London Magistrate's Court

The Cambridge Station Commander, Brigadier Pumla Mdlankomo, has expressed delight at collective effort displayed by the community of Cambridge West as this demonstrates their willingness in helping the SAPS in winning the fight against crime.
