Cambridge police officer realises dream at 2019 Comrades Marathon

Cambridge - SAPS Cambridge management is proud of the feat achieved by one of its own, 39-year-old Sergeant Ayanda Mabeni, who took part and completed the 2019 edition of the Comrades Marathon.

The Comrades Marathon is an ultramarathon of approximately 89 kilometres, which is run annually in the KwaZulu-Natal province of South Africa

On his return, he told his fellow officers that he had been dreaming of taking part in this event.

He was full gratitude for the support he got from the Cambridge station commander Brigadier Pumla Mdlankomo and his sponsor, Old Mutual in particular.

"Even though my family does not fully understand the sport, they supported me", he added.

He quipped that preparations for the race are the hardest. He further encouraged the youth to participate in sports because that will keep them away from committing crime.

Sergeant Mabeni also encouraged his colleagues to participate in this event because their job requires them to be fit and healthy.

The acting station commander, Colonel Vakele Bekebu congratulated the member and encouraged him for setting a good example.
