Centane man arrested after killing man who made fun of his dressing on New Year's Day

Centane police arrested a 25-year-old man for alleged murder of a 22-year-old man on New Year's Day following a misunderstanding over dressing.

"It is alleged that both the suspect and the deceased were celebrating the New Year on Tuesday, at about 00:30, at Jojweni Locality, Gobe Village, Centane," said police spokesperson, Capt Jackson Manatha.

"It is further alleged that deceased asked why the suspect was wearing a T-shirt and a short trouser."

He said that the suspect became angry and stabbed the deceased on his upper body.

Stabbing victim declared dead on at Butterworth Hospital

"The 22-year-old man was rushed to Butterworth Hospital with a private car, but was confirmed dead on arrival at the hospital."

Capt Manatha said that the suspect will appear before the Centane Magistrate's Court on Thursday on a murder charge.

The identity of the deceased is still being withheld until all his relatives are officially informed of his murder.
