Centane man gets 7-year suspended sentence after killing his own brother

A 25-year-old man from Butterworth, Bongani Makhosi, escapes jail after he was found guilty of culpable homicide by the Butterworth Regional Magistrate's Court.

"The accused was found guilty of killing his younger brother named Aphiwe Makhosi, aged 23," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackosn Manatha.

"It is alleged that the two brothers quarreled in a tarven at Gantane Location, Qoboqobo Village, Centane, on 30 January 2015, at about 18:00.

"The accused stabbed the deceased all over his body."

The deceased died at scene of crime.

"Initially, the accused was charged with murder.

"He was eventually convicted of culpable homicide on Monday," said Captain Manatha.

"He was sentenced to undergo seven years imprisonment, wholly suspended for four years."
