Centane man jailed for raping a teen he found at a tavern

Centane - The Centane Regional Magistrate’s Court convicted and sentenced a 25-year-old man, Anele Maxakatha, to undergo eight years imprisonment for rape. The accused was sentenced on Friday.

According to police spokesperson, Capt Jackson Manatha, it is alleged that the accused found a 16-year-old girl, who was enjoying herself in a tarven on the 01 January 2018, at about 18h00, at Rwantsini Locality, Gcina Village, Centane.

"The accused dragged the victim to his home where he raped her," he described.

"A rape case was registered at Centane Police Station. The case was handed over to Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS)."

Capt Manatha said that the accused was traced and arrested at Gcina Village, Centane.
