Centane man sentenced to 16 years behind bars for 2014 rape

The Centane Regional Magistrate's Court on Thursday convicted and sentenced 20-year-old Aviwe Nqamra to undergo 16 years imprisonment for a rape incident that occurred nearly three years ago.

"It is alleged that the accused followed a 25-year-old woman on 01 August 2014, at about 20:00. The victim was going home to Bhatyathi Location, Feni Village, Centane," described police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"Both accused and the victim are from the same village.

"The accused grabbed the victim from behind and dragged her to his home on the date in question.

"Once they arrived at the home of the accused, the accused raped the victim."

A case of rape was the registered at Centane Police Station.

"The case was handed over to Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), who traced and arrested the accused," said Captain Manatha.
