Centane police appeal for leads after 5-day-old baby found abandoned
Centane police have opened a case of child abandonment following the discovery of a five-day-old child on Thursday.
"It is alleged that a baby girl believed to be five days old was found abandoned at the door step of a certain homestead at Nkondwane Locality, Thuthura Village, Centane, on Thursday, at about 21h00," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.
"The baby was found by one the family members of the homestead."
He added that the baby was taken to the clinic and later to Social Development Department "for safe-keeping".
"No one was seen leaving the baby at the door step. No one knows the baby," Capt Manatha said.
"Centane police are appealing to anyone, who has information about the mother of the baby to contact them at 047 498 5400."
