Century city conference centre joins Sanlam Cape Town Marathon

As the official exhibition sponsor of the Sanlam Cape Town Marathon, the Century City Conference Centre offers participants and supporters the safety and convenience of registering for the race at their world-class venue on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 September. This central location is just minutes from the airport and easily accessible from the N1. With ample parking bays, high-speed internet and a variety of restaurants in the adjacent Century City Square, this registration venue promises to offers racegoers a seamless and exciting experience.

Gary Koetser and Glyn Taylor, CEOs of the Century City Conference Centre, note that the total number of participants and supporters make a significant impact on the local tourism and hospitality industry, and say that they’re delighted to be a part of this globally recognised sporting festival. “This event, which recently acquired Gold Label Status from the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), has established itself as the most elite marathon on the African continent. With an international participant contingent of close to ten percent, representing more than 75 countries from across the globe, this marathon has become as coveted as the Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York City races.”

The Century City Conference Centre is a significant business-event asset in the Western Cape designed around a versatile concept with both the event organiser and the visitor in mind. “We’re always looking for ways to give our participants the ultimate experience, and this venue will provide just that,” says a delighted Sanlam Cape Town Marathon race director Janet Welham.

The weekend of running events starts on 22 September with the two Peace Trail Runs (22km and 12km) and a 4.2km Fun Run/Walk. There’s a 10km Peace Run on Sunday 23 September, followed by the classic Olympian 42.2km marathon.

The Century City Conference Centre has planned some exciting activations on race day and already has a team of staff participating in the various races. “We look forward to being a part of this event and hope to make a valuable impact through our sponsorship,” says Koetser.

“Sustainability, social responsibility and development are social issues that we’re very passionate about. We’re proud to be Cape Town’s most sustainable event venue, and we’re encouraged by the marathon’s green initiatives and its commitment to minimising its impact on the environment. As a business destination, we challenge all captains of industry to participate in the Run4Change legacy programme in order to make a real difference in our communities,” Taylor.

Africa is my home, this is my race. It's Cape Town, must run it!
