Check your address on voters roll this weekend

George Executive Mayor, Alderman Melvin Naik, encourages all voters in George to ensure their address details are correctly recorded on the voters roll this coming weekend.

The Independent Electoral Commission is opening all 22 612 voting stations across the country this weekend, 10 and 11 March 2018, as part of a national campaign to updated the voters’ roll in preparation for the 2019 elections.

“George is a dynamic, growing city with many new residents as well as locals who have moved to different wards in the same municipality since the last elections in 2016.

"The George Municipality encourages all its residents to check, update and confirm their addresses at their local voting stations to ensure they all get a chance to have a say in the governance of our country. Your vote matters, please make sure it counts,” says Ald Naik.

All voting stations will be open on Saturday and Sunday, 10 and 11 March 2018, from 8am to 5pm to assist new voters to register, allow already registered voters, who have moved since they registered to re-register in their correct voting district, and allow registered voters whose address details are not on the voters’ roll to provide this information.

Voters are required to take their identification document (a smart card, green barcoded ID book or valid Temporary Identity Certificate) to the voters’ station when they register or change information. You can register if you are a South African citizen and at least 16 years old (although you will only be allowed to vote from age 18). Proof of residence is not required.

An online facility for registered voters to review and/or provide their address are available at www.elections.org.za/MyIEC Online updates must be logged by the end on May 2018.
