Chippa overcome Baroka FC for trusting confidence boost

Coming back from a goal deficit, Chippa United managed to claw to a 2-1 victory over the last-placed Baroka FC in their first ABSA Premiership encounter of 2017 at the NMB Stadium on Tuesday night.

Striking first blood, Baroka’s Maboke Matlakala, notched a goal halfway through the first half to take a 1-0 lead for the visitors.

Chippa then managed to pinch the strokes of each half with goals, as mid-fielder Thamsanqa Sangweni, netted a goal just before half time to draw level, with Rhulani Manzini then offering the tiebreaker deep into stoppage time at the end of the game to win it for the home side.

Chilli Boys Head Coach, Dan Malesela, expresses his emotions, as he was visibly crabbed throughout the course of the match.

“It was very key and that's why we were getting so mad on the bench because, besides that, we're playing against the team that is below us," Malesela told KickOff.

Malesela reiterated the boost of confidence that the win denoted to his side as they move to the following rounds of the PSL.

"You need to boost the confidence of the players going to East London and playing against Sundowns because, obviously, you know, Sundowns is not going to be an easy team,” Malesela said.

"You need that confidence to say 'if you lose against Baroka and you go to Sundowns and to some of the new boys, what are you saying to them? Where are they going to get confidence?' So we needed these three points," Malesela expressed.

Chippa are currently ninth on the overall ABSA Premiership standings with 19 points and five wins out of 15 games under their belt.
