Chippa top the pass ratings for 2016/17 ABSA Premiership season

Chippa United have built a reputation around their passing and linking game in the 2016/17 ABSA premiership season thus far and they evidently occupy seven of the top 10 spots when it comes to the average individual passes per game.

Being the passing side in the country, the Chilli Boys may have received some criticism for possible over-passing, leading to no polished end-product for many of their interactive efforts.

However, a high-pass rate can most certainly assume that the side is well inclined to their positioning, linking, combinations and communicative strategies on the field.

The top four highest average passes per game all belong to Chippa players with the best outsider player being Hlompho Kekana from the Mamellodi Sundowns at 5th. The two other players not representing Chippa who are in the top 10, are Tsepo Masilela (Kaiser Chiefs) and Thabo Nthethe (Mamelodi Sundowns) ranked 9th and 10th respectively.

Marc van Heerden trumps the charts by a mile being right on top with almost 15 averaged more passes per game than the second-placed, Sandile Zuke. The former had completed an average of 89.13 passes per game, with the latter having completed 74.17.

  1. Marc van Heerden  (Chippa United) - 89.13
