Chippa United get the ball rolling with player transfer signings

During the current PSL transfer window, Chippa United have confirmed the signings of four players in the month of July to date.

The Chilli Boys’ squad has recently been bolstered with the signings of goalkeeper Brighton Mhlongo from Orlando Pirates and a return-signing of Mark Mayambela from Ajax Cape Town respectively – both of whom have penned three-year deals with the Eastern Cape club.

“We are pleased to confirm that Brighton will don the Chippa United jersey for the next three years. He is one of the top goalkeepers in the country, and his arrival can only strengthen us going to the season ahead,” Chippa United Executive Chairman, Siviwe Mpengesi, told Soccer Laduma.

“Thank you to Dr. Khoza and Orlando Pirates, they once again showed their professionalism during negotiations,” Mpengesi added.

“I would also like to thank Prosport International for their contribution in making this deal happen.”

“Lastly my management team down (in) Port Elizabeth, in particular, Mr Peter Koutroulis who worked tirelessly in tying up this deal,” Mpengesi confirmed.

Of Mayambela’s return to the club, Mpengesi showed his relief to have the player back in the mix and is confident of what he can contribute to the side ahead of the new season.

“Chippa United will give him a platform to fulfill the potential he showed in his early years in the PSL. The club has grown since Mark left and we have different objectives now,” Mpengesi told KickOff.

“We have no doubt that he will add value to the growth of the brand, on and off the field.”

Just last week, Mpengesi also hailed the club’s signing of Kurt Lentjies, and described his signing as, “one of the top signings in the history of the club.”

Lentjies joined Chippa from Maritzburg United, and is deemed to fill the void left behind by Thamsanqa Sangweni when he departed the club to join the Pirates.

"The coach, fans and the community of Port Elizabeth are very excited about his arrival. I have no doubt that his presence will add value to the team,” Mpengesi said.

In the beginning of the month, Samuel Julies joined the Chippa outfit, when his contract at Mamelodi Sundowns expired after the 2016/17 season, where he played on the fringes for most parts of the season.

The Chilli Boys have also confirmed that more signings are due to be revealed later this week for further reinforcements into the squad.
