Closure of recycling facility at Total Summerstrand, PE
Total South Africa has announces the removal of the recycle bins that have been at the Total Summerstrand service station in Port Elizabeth.
Total introduced these recycle bins several years ago in the interest of reducing litter and encouraging recycling amongst communities.
However, because of the abuse of this facility by certain members of the public, it has become an eye sore, a health risk and has attracted vagrants.
"People have been dumping items such as garden refuse, unwanted furniture, clothing and food, despite bins are clearly marked otherwise, and it is for this reason that the decision to close this facility has been taken.
“We regret having to take this decision, but have to operate in the best interest of our service stations and the communities in which Total operates” says Reina Cullinan, Total's Corporate Communications and Marketing Manager.
