Coega puts the EC on the map with global investment attractions

EC Premier and the Governor of Zhejiang province recognizes the endless opportunities for investors available in Coega

Eastern Cape Premier, Hon. Phumulo Masualle, and the Governor of Zhejiang Province in the People’s Republic of China, Honorable Che Jun were hosted by the CDC for a presentation on the special features the SEZ has to offer to its foreign investors, held on Friday.

This was followed by visits to Port of Ngqura and the Chinese owned First Automotive Works (FAW) & Beijing Automotive International Corporation (BAIC) plants located at the Coega Special Economic Zone. The Premier commended CDC management for the work that they have done over the years in securing exposure and opportunities for the SEZ since its inception.

The Premier further reassured the CDC that more opportunities for this SEZ will arise after this visit.

“Surely of the abundant opportunities we are talking to here today, there will be some that will find expression in the investments that even this Special Economic Zone shall be able to host as part of building our relationships between the two provinces [Eastern Cape and Zhejiang province],” said Masualle.

Governor of Zhejiang Province in the People’s Republic of China, His Excellency Mr Che Jun commended Coega SEZ for its incredible advantage compared to other SEZs due to its strategic geographical location and infrastructure of the local city as well as its richness in resources like the disposal of land and sufficient electricity and water supply.

The Governor also expressed his impression on the presentation conducted by the CDC and recognized Coega`s investment ambition “I have been staying in African countries for a few years now and what strikes me the most when I came to Coega is that you have done the presentation in Chinese, this shows international vision,” said Che Jun.

“Coega has already become a major platform for the opening up of S.A to attract new foreign investment and I`m optimistic about the future of this SEZ.”-  said Che Jun.

“The comments by the Governor are certainly in line with the clarion call made by the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa to attract $100bn in new investment. The CDC is aware of the fact that foreign investors are attracted to SEZs with infrastructure and support and thus, we have ensured that the Coega SEZ has world class infrastructure and support systems in place," concludes Dr Ayanda Vilakazi, CDC Head of Marketing, Brand and Communications.
