Cold front expected to bring some rains over the weekend

Showers and rains are expected this weekend, mostly in the coastal parts of the Eastern Cape, from St Francis Bay to East London, when a cold front passes south of the country, the Port Elizabeth office of the South African Weather Service said on Wednesday.

"We are expecting some much needed rain over the weekend," described Garth Sampson, Client Liaison Officer for the Eastern Cape at the South African Weather Service.

"It will however NOT be enough to break the drought or have any impact on the water situation, but could give a little bit of relief in filling up gardeners water tanks."

He said that a cold front passes south of the country on Thursday followed by a ridging high pressure system.

"This will bring with it moisture that will be fed into the Eastern Cape on Friday," added Samspson.

"Showers and rain are expected in most places over the Eastern Cape  from Friday into Saturday.

"The combination of the upper air trough and the ridging high will result in favourable conditions for some significant falls (at least 20mm) over the coastal areas between Cape St Francis and East London."
