Cold front system still expected over Eastern Cape says weather office

Port Elizabeth - The Port Elizabeth office of the SA Weather Service on Tuesday said that as per Monday's media release, the cold front system is still on track, with no major changes to the forecast.

Garth Sampson, Client Liaison Officer Eastern Cape South African Weather Service said the National Forecast Centre will issue another update later.

He said that they do however have a few warnings for the Eastern Cape Region, as listed below:


09-10/06/2020: Sampson said that extremely high fire danger conditions are expected over western interior today (9th) but over most parts of the Eastern Cape tomorrow (10th).

10/06/2020: He added that a Gale force W/SW wind of at least 62km/h with gusts of at least 81km/h is expected along the coast and adjacent interior.


11/06/2020: Sampson said that snowfalls expected over the higher ground of the Province.


"Although the High Fire Danger warning is issued mainly for the western interior, one must note that under these windy dry conditions, that any fire has the potential to spread rapidly," Sampson added.

"This applies to the entire Eastern Cape.

"The public is thus warned to act responsibly and note that the making of open fires under these conditions is prohibited."
