Compensation Fund Commissioner to meet PE medical service providers

Compensation Fund (CF) Commissioner, Vuyo Mafata, is to meet with medical service providers at the The Beach Hotel in Port Elizabeth on Friday evening.

"This is a sequel to a similar engagement which was held a week ago in East London, which was attended by scores of stakeholders," said Teboho Thejane, Department of Labour Spokesperson.

"The purpose of the dinner is to engage the medical service providers on the challenges they face when dealing with the Compensation Fund and the proposed solutions."
Thejane said that the engagement with the medical service providers is part of the Commissioner’s engagement with its broader stakeholders.

"The Commissioner has recently been meeting nationally with Chambers of Commerce and Industry to advocate issues of mutual interest, especially in relation to compliance with the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act (COIDA) in a number of provinces," he added.
"The Compensation Fund is a public entity under the administration of Department of Labour. The Fund’s mandate is to administer the COIDA."

Thejane said that the main objective of the Act is to provide compensation for disablement caused by occupational injuries or diseases sustained or contracted by workers, or for death resulting from such injuries or diseases, and provide for matters connected therewith.
