Police have launched a manhunt after a courier vehicle carrying goods worth around R350 000 was hijacked in Despatch on Thursday.

"At around 08:45am, it is alleged that four men armed with firearms driving a white Volkswagen Polo held a driver of a courier vehicle and his assistant at gunpoint while they were delivering goods at Maraboe Street, in Despatch," described police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli.

"They were then forced into a Polo and one of the suspects sped off with a courier vehicle.

"It was later recovered abandoned in Gwanci Street, Kwadwesi, around midday with the goods missing."

Sergeant Nkohli said that the two victims were later dropped in Port Elizabeth and reported the incident to their employer's office.

"Police are urging anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the nearest police station or to share information via Crime Stop 08600 10111."
