Cradock police make a R1,7 million dagga bust, arrest six suspects

Cradock - Six male suspects are expected in court after they were arrested by Cradock police for possession of dagga worth nearly R2 million.

"On Monday night, information was received from a source, which led to the successful apprehension and arrest of six adult males for dealing in dagga," said police spokesperson, Capt Lariane Jonker.

"During the operation, a Toyota Quantum minibus taxi and a trailer, which was used to transport the illicit drugs, were also confiscated.

"This followed the swift reaction of the Cradock Cluster Operational Command Centre personnel, who at about 19:00 on Monday stopped and searched the identified vehicle on the N10, National road, en route to Cape Town."

Capt Jonker said that six adult males, between the ages of  18 and 42 years, were found in possession of 557 kilograms of dagga. The dagga is worth an estimated R1 700 000.

"They will appear in the Cradock Magistrate's Court soon," she added.

"The community is once again sensitized to report  information, because successful apprehension of perpetrators requires intelligence collection from the community."
