Crime issues – meeting will be scheduled

Members of the public expressed unhappiness about not being invited to a meeting held on 14 February with Minister Dan Plato.

According to Acting Executive Mayor, Dudley Coetzee, the meeting was called at short notice and the main focus on the agenda was to address concerns regarding the Walking Bus initiative in Kleinmond.

As there was not enough time to inform all stakeholders of the meeting, councillors decided to go ahead - while having the attention of the minister - to raise issues about community safety and crime related problems in the respective wards.

Because the Premier and the Western Cape Minister of Local Government are well aware of the poaching problems, the shortage of manpower at police stations, as well as other crime issues, it has been decided to wait on feedback from the Minister’s office on future proposed actions (including the summit) to implement a crime prevention anti-poaching strategy before a meeting is called.

The public will be informed of when a meeting will be scheduled for discussion of the above issues. This will include residents of all areas in the Overstrand.
