DA to lead march in 'one of the corruption hubs in the province'

Democratic Alliance (DA) Eastern Cape Provincial Leader, Nqaba Bhanga, is expected to lead a march to the offices of Mnquma Local Municipality, in Butterworth, against alleged corruption in this municipality and the Eastern Cape province.

He will be joined by Phesheya Kwenciba Constituency Leader, Veliswa Mvenya and Provincial Spokesperson, Mlindi Nhanha.

In a statement, the party said that the Hawks identified Mnquma Local Municipality "as one of the corruption hubs in the province".

"Incidents of fraud and corruption on a grand scale in the municipality include the irregular awarding of tenders, some municipal employees receiving kickbacks for state business, and a complete disregard for the Public Finance Management Amendment Act (PFMA)," the party said.

It added that it condemns corruption at all levels as it cripples service delivery and robs the most vulnerable members of society.

"We cannot allow opportunistic government officials to continue robbing the people of the Mnquma Municiplaity.

"The people of the Mnquma Municipality and the Eastern Cape deserve better than the ANC’s corruption and arrogance," read the statement.

"The people of the Eastern Cape deserve a new beginning under a DA-led government that puts the people first and invests the people’s money into service delivery and job creation."
