DA u-turns on Kohler-Barnard’s expulsion

The Federal Executive Council of the Democratic Alliance (DA) has reversed the expulsion ruling imposed on its former Shadow Minister of Police, Dianne Kohler-Barnard.

This comes after she was demoted to the position of Deputy Shadow Minister of Public Works before having her membership revoked for sharing a post on Facebook by freelance journalist Paul Kirk, that contained the lines, “Please come back PW Botha – you were far more honest than any of these ANC rogues, and you provided far better services to the public”.

Her defence team, reportedly headed by Oscar Pistorius’ lawyer Barry Roux, announced last month she would be appealing the party’s decision to have her expelled.

According to Eyewitness News, she is requested to make a payment of R20 000 to a non-government organisation that works with people disadvantaged by Apartheid, and while she is allowed to carry-on as a party MP, she has to resign from all other elected positions.
