De Lille and the DA again expected in court

Embattled Cape Town Mayor, Patricia de Lille, and the Democratic Alliance (DA) are again expected on Monday to lock horns in court over de Lille's future as a member of the party.

De Lille wants the Western Cape High Court to hear her application that the court reviews the decision the party took to terminate her membership.

It is the Western Cape High Court that ruled that de Lille interim returns to her position temporarily as Cape Town Mayor until the merits of her case can be fully debated.

The embattled Mayor has argued that the DA unconstitutionally removed her from being a party member and incorrectly applied party rules against her.

She said that the DA had incorrectly claimed that she resigned on her own during a Radio 702 interview conducted in late April.

There have been accusations and counter-accusations between de Lille and the DA over the past months as the relationship between the Mayor and the party grew sour last year.

Arguments are set to be heard on Monday and on Tuesday.
