Deputy Mayor Bobani presses charges against NMB Municipality senior officials

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Deputy Mayor, Mongameli Bobani, laid charges against Municipal Manager, Johann Metler and Executive Director of Corporate Services, Vuyo Zitumane at the Humewood Police Station on Wednesday.

This puts the Nelson Mandela Bay coalition government into testing waters, and Bobani laid the charges as a result of sceptical contracts that were rendered by Metler and Zitumane where millions of rands were spent.

Bobani is also the Head of the Public Health Directorate, which heads Milongani Eco Consulting, one of the Metro’s multi-million rand contracts under forensic investigations for irregular and impropriate tenders, as addressed by Executive Mayor, Athol Trollip on Tuesday.

On the same day, Zitumane and her lawyer said that they will be soliciting R500 000 for defamation of character, against Bobani after he announced that she was corrupt.

“I'm here at Humewood police station to press these charges. The charges have a potential of implicating the Executive Mayor [Athol Trolip] and he must answer about these charges that he does know everything about,” Bobani told journalists at the Humewood Police Station on Wednesday.

"As you can see right now, the coalition is on a very low pace, because the DA does not want to accept that they are not in power,” Bobani said.

“The DA doesn't want to accept that this is a coalition government.  There is no way that we can allow one man to actually decide for us and run that municipality like a farm.”

Racism was also once again brought up as a foreground argument against the current coalition of the NMBM.

"The racism is there and this man [Athol Trollip] does not want to sort this matter out. All the workers are crying about racism," Bobani said.
