Deputy Minister of Police expected in Mthatha on Friday

As part of lead-up programs to the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children, the Deputy Minister of Police, Makhotso Maggie Sotyu, will engage on a community outreach program at the Thusong Centre, Viedesville, in Bityi, near Mthatha, on 18 November 2016.  

"The Community Outreach Program will focus on condemning rapes of the elderly women and forced marriages ‘ukuthwala’ of young girls," said Eastern Cape police.

"The area was also marred with the attacks and killings of elderly women accused of practicing witchcraft. This outreach program will also focus on mobilizing the communities against the practice of labeling certain members of the community as ‘witches’ and the consequences of such actions."
