Despatch man held at gunpoint as gang of five ransacks his store

Police in Uitenhage are investigating a case of business robbery after five armed men robbed a general dealer store in Despatch on Sunday.

"At around 6pm, it is alleged that five armed men entered the shop, one of the suspects held the owner at gunpoint, while others ransacked the store," said police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli.

"The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes before fleeing the scene on foot.

"At this stage, it is unknown whether suspects used a getaway vehicle during the incident."

Uitenhage police appeal for leads to help solve Despatch store robbery

Sgt Nkohli said that the suspects are still at large and no person was injured during the incident.

"Police are appealing to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to contact the the crime stop number on 0860010111 or the nearest police station."
