Despatch man nabbed for possession of R80 000 worth of stolen fishing equipment

A 23-year-old man from Despatch, just outside Port Elizabeth, is expected in court on Wednesday after he was arrested by local police in possession of suspected stolen property worth nearly R100 000 in a house in Despatch on Monday night.

"At about 21:00, police acted on information of a house with suspected stolen fishing equipments in Acacia Street, Despatch," said police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli.

"At the scene, police confiscated R80 000 worth of fishing equipments and also nabbed a man for possession of suspected stolen property."

Sergeant Nkohli said that a preliminary investigation revealed that the items were stolen from a boat near Colchester, Port Elizabeth.

"The man is to appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on charges of possession of suspected stolen property."
