Suspects arrested at Qumbu following Mthatha house robbery

Mthatha -  Two suspects, aged 23 and 34, are expected in court on Monday after they were arrested by Mthatha Flying Squad members over the weekend following a house robbery.

"The house robbery occured at Hillcrest on Saturday night," described police spokesperson, Captain Dineo Koena.

"It is alleged that two suspects entered a house and, at gun point, robbed the residents of several valuables including cellphones, tv, clothing and a white VW Polo TSi."

She said that Mthatha Flying Squad members followed some leads in Qumbu town where they found these suspects in a hideout on Sunday, at about 12h00.

"Two 9mm pistols with 13 and 06 rounds (serial numbers filed off) were found hidden in the robbed vehicle and other stolen items were recovered."

Capt Koena said that the suspects will appear before the Mthatha Magistrate's Court on Monday.

She said that the firearms will be sent to ballistic testing to ascertain whether they cannot be linked in the commission of other crimes.

"Let's make Mthatha a no go area for criminals. Let's stamp our authority and let them see they don't have space here. This is a great job done," said the Acting Cluster Commander, Brigadier Mandlakhe Twala.

Man busted by Mthatha Vispol members with suspected stolen property

Meanwhile, Capt Koena said that a 28-year-old man is also expected in court on Monday after he was arrested by Vispol members after having been found in possession of a police issued safe at Zixholosini locality, Ngqeleni, on Saturday night.

"The safe is  believed  to have been stollen during a break-in at a homestead of a SAPS member  in Dumasi locality Ngqeleni in March this year," she described.

"Two Laptops an HP and an Acer - also suspected to have been stolen, were also confiscated from him during the raid by the members acting on a tip-off."

He will appear in Ngqeleni Magistrate's Court on Monday facing a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.

"He will be linked to the above mentioned house breaking and theft."
