Duo busted in Maluti with nearly R4 000 in counterfeit money

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, members of the Maluti K9 Unit received information of a syndicate, who were allegedly dealing in counterfeit money.

"They immediately mobilised the Mount Ayliff highway patrol members and the team proceeded to the Phaphane locality," described police spokesperson, Capt Mali Govender. 

"A suspect, who was wanted on a charge of fraud by the Ntabankulu SAPS was arrested."

She said that a second suspect found in possession of the 18 fake R200 notes was also arrested.

R4 000 in counterfeit monay seizee

He faces a charge of possession of counterfeit money.

"It is believed that the amount of counterfeit money is approximately R4 000," Capt Govender said.

"The affected community are urged to contact their local SAPS or the Crime Stop number on 0860010111."

Both suspects will appear in the local court during the week.
