Duo caught allegedly stealing eighty-eight sheep in Kubusiedrift

King Williams Town - Two suspects were arrested at Kubusiedrift after they were caught by police allegedly stealing 88 sheep on Wednesday.

"This comes after police were alerted by a community member after seeing his sheep out of the camp," said police spokesperson, Captain Siphokazi Mawisa.

"Quick response led police to arrest two males, aged 34 and 53 years, on the farm.

"On police investigation, they searched the suspects and recover knives, pliers and rope that were allegedly been used to commit crime."

Capt Mawisa said that police also saw that the fence was cut near the road.

"Eighty-eight sheep were recovered and given back to the lawful owner," she added.

"The suspects were charged for Stock Theft and will appear at Stutterheim Magistrate Court on Thursday".

King William’s Town SAPS Cluster Commander, Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga, congratulated the members for the swift response to such matters and encouraged all the units to do their best.

"Work hand in hand with community members and stock owners to fight the scourge of stock theft.  Members of the public to refrain from buying meat and stock from unscrupulous dealers who do not own stock or have positive proof that they are the rightful owners of the goods for sale," he added.

"Police will be having no option but to arrest the seller and the buyer of stolen stock."
