Dutywa police arrested a 23-year-old man for possession of unlicensed firearm namely a pistol with six rounds of ammunition.

"The suspect was arrested on Tuesday, at about 19:45, at a local garage along Richardson Street, in Dutywa," said police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha.

"Police were on patrol when they came across the suspicious man at the garage.

"When he was searched, he was found with a firearm and six rounds of ammunition."

Captain Manatha said that the man was arrested after he failed to produce a license for the firearm.

"Police prevented armed robberies and murders with the arrest.

"The firearm will be circulated and also sent for ballistic test to establish if it was not used in the commission of crime around Dutywa," he added.

"The suspect is appearing before the Dutywa Magistrate's Court this morning of Wednesday on charges of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition."
