Dutywa police warn residents after fatal stabbing at traditional ceremony

Dutywa police are investigating a murder case following a fatal stabbing at a traditional ceremony over the weekend.

"It is alleged that there was a traditional ceremony where a group of boys fought at Mahliwane Locality, Gwadana Village, Dutywa on Friday night," said police spokesperson, Capt Jackson Manatha.

"A 28-year-old man was fatally stabbed at the homestead, which hosted the traditional ceremony on Saturday, at about 01h00."

Capt Manatha said that it is not clear at this point in time if the deceased was stopping the fight of the boys.

"Traditional ceremonies are supposed to be reported to all the police stations so that they can be policed. The ceremony in question was never reported to Dutywa police," he added.

"Butterworth Cluster Police are appealing to all the people, who will be hosting the traditional ceremonies to report them to their police stations."

He said that traditional ceremonies are supposed to be stopped at 17:00 to avoid crimes such murders, rape and robbery.

"The identity of the deceased is still being withheld until all his relatives are officially informed of his murder."
