Early morning trip to Kwazakele KFC ends in motorist being robbed with toy gun

A 27-year-old armed robbery suspect is expected in court soon after he was nabbed red handed by police while he was busy robbing a motorist in Kwazakele, Port Elizabeth, early on Wednesday morning.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, the man was arrested by alert officers from the Motherwell SAPS Cluster Operational Command Centre (OCC), who spotted the robbery in progress while doing crime prevention duties and patrols in Njoli Road, Kwazakele.

"At about 00:30, the members spotted four males surrounding a black Opel Astra parked in the parking lot of KFC," he described.

"On moving closer the four suspects fled from the vehicle.

"The members managed to arrest one 27-year-old male, while the other three managed to evade arrest. In the suspect's possession a black toy gun was found as well as the money that was robbed from the motorist."

The Acting Motherwell Cluster Commander, Brigadier Lindelwa Vellem, responded by applauding the swift action by the alert OCC members.

"As SAPS we are focussed on being out on the streets to ensure a safe and secure environment for our community. Our members were at the right place and time and we are positive to also have the rest of these robbers behind bars soon," she added.
