East London crime response officer busted for Oriental Plaza business robbery

A Crime Intelligence driven operation was conducted by members of East London Detectives, Crime intelligence with assistance of East London Crime Prevention on Friday night.

"They followed an information on bussiness robbery that took place at the Oriental Plaza in East London," said police spokesperson, W/O Hazel Mqala.

"The information led to an arrest of two male suspects, aged 28 and 38 years old. One suspect was in possession of possible items that were taken from a business robbery that happened on 6 September in Oriental Plaza."

Local security company employee also arrested

Further information led to the arrest of the second suspect that was also involved in the same business robbery and he is an employee of a security company as a crime response officer, W/O Mqala said.

"Several items were recovered during the operation that include: One Gas Pistol, One Astra .38 Revolver special, Fifteen live rounds, One Correctional services bullet proof vest, SAPS uniform (cap), One wrist watch, Two digital cameras, One Opel Astra vehicle, undisclosed amount of Coins "R5 & R2" in various bank bags," she said.

W/O Mqala added that one Sumsung Tablet, one nokia cell phone and five firearm holsters were also seized by police.

"The two suspects will appear in the East London Magistrate's Court on Monday for possession of suspected stolen property and bussiness robbery.
