East London man handed two life sentences for brutal rape

East London police this week secured another success when the Mdantsane Regional Court handed down two life sentences to a convicted rapist.

The suspect was convicted for the rape of a 46-year-old woman.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Mluleki Mbi, the 43-year-old man, Siyabonga 'Tally' Conjwayo, also received three years imprisonment for kidnapping and three years imprisonment for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

"This follows the events of December 2016 where the victim was dragged outside of a tavern at Unit P, Mdantsane outside East London, severely beaten resulting in broken jaws and reapeatedly raped in the accused's shack," he said.

The Mdantsane Acting Cluster Commander, Brigadier Marinda Mills, welcomed the sentence as it will serve as a deterrent to the would-be rapists and will strengthen our fight against women abuse.
