East London man jailed for 2016 Hemingways Mall robbery

The East London Regional Court sentenced a 32-year-old man to an effective 15 years imprisonment following the robbery of a clothing store at the City's Hemingways Mall in October 2016.

"During this incident Constable Vusani of Mdantsane SAPS  was on duty and in uniform when he confronted these robbers at the mall  and managed to arrest one suspect, Masixole Mba, while the others managed to flee the scene," said police spokesperson, Captain Mluleki Mbi.

"He has since been awarded a highest order for his bravery."

In the same breath, Brigadier Pumla Mdlankomo has commended the investigating officer, Detective Constable Siyanda Tyokolo, for his consistent court successes in robbery cases.
